Cargo Ship Sinks off Northwestern Turkey, Rescue Operations Underway for 6 Crew Members A cargo ship named BATUHAN A, measuring 69 meters in length, has sunk in the southern Sea of Marmara off the coast of northwestern Turkey. The vessel encountered water ingress, prompting rescue efforts for its six crew members, believed to be Turkish nationals, as confirmed by the governor of a nearby province.

Rescue teams in the region are actively engaged in retrieving the crew of the sunken vessel, according to a statement provided by Mahmut Demirtas, the governor of Bursa province. The ship went down near the southern coast of the Sea of Marmara, close to Imrali island.

Governor Demirtas mentioned the deployment of two coastal safety teams, supported by a third team from the Bandirma district of Balikesir province, all converging on the rescue site southwest of Imrali island.

To bolster the rescue efforts, speedboats have been promptly dispatched to the area, as confirmed by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety of Turkey.

Demirtas highlighted the challenging conditions in the vicinity of the shipwreck, with waves reaching heights of up to 3 meters. He emphasized the coordinated rescue operations being managed at the Coast Guard Command center in Mudanya district, Bursa.
